About

Hi, my name is Steve and I’m Freetired.

So just what does Freetired mean anyway? Good question. I consider it to be a lifestyle that allows the freedom to travel, explore, and live life with intention without being constrained by obligations like your job.

This is distinctly different from retirement and what is typically associated with it. Being Freetired doesn’t mean that you don’t or can’t work, but rather that the nature of your work allows the freedom to fully enjoy and appreciate all that life has to offer. This can be different for everyone, but I look at it as freedom from the constraints of a traditional career; the ability to intelligently shape your life and make decisions based on what’s truly important to you rather than being at the mercy of an employer, or trapped by social expectations.

I quit my full time engineering job in 2013, and have been embarking on various adventures and projects since them. One of those accidentally turned into a full time job for a year and a half, but luckily I got out of that before it was too late! I still work part-time as an engineer (remotely, obviously), which keeps me engaged and pays for my simple lifestyle.

This blog serves as a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts, feelings, and experiences related to the lifestyle. I write about things that inspire me, ranging from technical van related posts to philosophical life questions.

Currently I’m living out of my converted Sprinter campervan, and traveling the U.S. while trying to simply slow down and enjoy life for a while. Feel free to get in touch (steve@freetired.org) to ask questions or just say hi.

Hi Steve! What kind of engineering work can you do remote? Asking for a friend interested in travel. Thanks!
